Yes its official, XTC is hosting its very first online tournament! The game of choice, just to get our toes wet, is Quake Live. Many may argue that the Quake series is dead, however, we beg to differ. The online presence in SA is strong, there are many clans and as many clan matches on a weekly basis. So how can it be dead? The lack of tournaments is certainly contributing to the low number of followers - we're here to change that! Or at least try.
Welcome to XTC's first online hosted tournament, and Quake Live's first ever in a long while. All the info you need is right here. We're looking forward to watching some great games! Good luck!

Rules, Seedings, Schedule & Map Pool
Rules
- This online tournament is open to South African residents ONLY.
- Players need to be registered on the XTC website before signing up for the tournament.
- No cheating: if you are caught cheating, in any way, this includes, wall hacking, aim bots, and/or getting a friend to play on your behalf - you and your friend will be disqualified from current and future tournaments.
- No little blue men with white hats allowed: The South African community is small enough to know who the regular players are. If you are not a regular, and are suspected of SMURFING, you will not be allow to participate - if you genuinely are a new player to the community, well I'm afraid you're going to have to either provide some kind of proof of your new existence, or gain more experience before the next xTc QL Tournament.
- Play fair: The players are expected to play by their full capacity at all times. Losing on purpose won’t be tolerated and will result in a disqualification. This is up to the Head Admin to decide.
- Fixtures will be announced on this page (see tab Fixtures below). Look out for whom you are playing against. It is YOUR responsibility to get in contact with your opponent to arrange a date/time to play. XTC will provide you with as many tools as possible to make this as easy as possible for you. These tools include:
- Send user a private message via the XTC Community
- Chat to user online via (facebook style) Instant Chat available to all registered XTC members (bottom of XTC website)
- Contact user in channel #xtc in IRC on the shadowfire.org network
- Contact user on Quake Live servers
- Game results: The winner of the round is responsible for posting the results to the XTC website - instructions will be provided closer to the time.
You will need the link to the online game result directly from Quake Live before posting the result. To get this, view your QL profile after the game, click on the Matches tab, then click on the last match result. Now COPY the web page address in your browsers address bar.
*** UPDATE: Demo recordings is now MANDATORY! You will be required to upload the game demo along with the game result.
- Disqualifications: as mentioned above, for cheating, but also for failure to complete fixture round within designated timeframe. If one of the two players is able to provide proof of them contacting their opponent, the active player will be awarded the win. If neither player has shown an interest, both spots will be disqualified - hence awarding the next round opponent a bye.
Seedings / Division selection
- Will be handled according to the QL ZA rankings
- QL ZA rankings is merely a guideline - obviously some players play more online than others. Players such as Ph4ntom who has a track record of placing top in major competitions, but is listed low on ZA Rankings due to inactivity, will have their placing automatically placed into Div A
- Division A will comprise of the top 16 seeded entries.
- Division B will comprise of the remaining/lowest seeded entries.
- If there are less than 32 players registered for the tournament, the available field will be split into 2. IE: if 17 players in total register for the tournament, Div A will contain 9 players and Div B will contain 8 players.
Schedule
- Round 1 matches (Div A and Div B) - Start: Friday 3rd Feb - End: Saturday 4th Feb
- Round 2 matches (Div A and Div B) - Start: Sunday 5th Feb - End: Monday 6th Feb
- Round 3 matches (Div A and Div B) - Start: Tuesday 7th Feb - End: Wednesday 8th Feb
- Round 1 loser brackets matches (Div A and Div B) - can be played from time of fixture update - 48 hour rule applies here - you will receive a personal message via XTC community and IRC. IE: Round 1 loser bracket matches can start being played from Sunday 5th Feb.

Map Selection
- Lowest ranked player, is Player 1. Highest ranked player is Player 2
- Player 1 starts by removing a map from the pool.
- Player 2 then removes one from the remaining maps.
- Player 1 then picks one of the remaining maps.
- Player 2 then picks one of the remaining maps.
- In the event of a tie, the last map will be used as a tiebreaker.
- A map may not be picked or removed twice.
Technical Failures
In the unlikely event of a server or a client crash the following rules apply:
- If the map have been played for less than one (1) minute the map is restarted and the player scores are reset.
- If both players have equal frag count the map is restarted and the player scores are reset.
- If more than one minute are played in a map and the frag count are not equal the map is restarted, time limit set to the amount of minutes that was left when the server or client crashed. The frag count each player had when the failure happened will be added to the final score of that map afterwards.
- The server callvote command is disabled by default, so its up to the players (or an admin if available) to manage this process by only playing the amount of time necessary to complete the map
